Babesiosis, Trypanosomiasis, Theiloriosis, Microfilaria Diseases in Sheep

Babesiosis (Red urine disease)
Cause: Babesia spp. (tick-borne)
💉 Specific Treatment
- Inj. Diminazene aceturate → 3.5 mg/kg IM
- 🔁 Repeat after 24–72 hrs if severe
OR
- Inj. Imidocarb dipropionate → 1–1.2 mg/kg SC (single dose)
➕ Supportive
- Meloxicam – 0.2 mg/kg (3 days)
- B-complex / Liver tonic
- Fluids if dehydration
- Blood transfusion (very severe anemia)
🩸 Theileriosis
Cause: Theileria spp. (tick-borne)
💉 Specific Treatment
- Inj. Buparvaquone → 2.5 mg/kg IM
- 🔁 Repeat after 48–72 hrs
Alternative (mild cases):
- Inj. Oxytetracycline LA → 20 mg/kg IM, repeat after 72 hrs
➕ Supportive
- NSAID (Meloxicam)
- Multivitamins
- Tick control mandatory
🩸 Trypanosomiasis (Surra)
Cause: Trypanosoma spp. (biting flies)
💉 Specific Treatment
- Inj. Diminazene aceturate → 7 mg/kg IM (single dose)
OR
- Inj. Quinapyramine sulphate + chloride
- 3–5 mg/kg SC (therapeutic)
➕ Supportive
- Iron + B-complex
- Liver tonic
- NSAID if fever
🩸 Microfilaria Disease
Cause: Filarial worms (mosquito-borne)
💉 Specific Treatment
- Inj. Ivermectin → 0.2 mg/kg SC
- 🔁 Repeat after 15 days
OR
- Inj. Diethylcarbamazine (DEC) → 6 mg/kg daily × 7 days
➕ Supportive
- Antihistamine (CPM)
- NSAID if swelling
🦟 VECTOR CONTROL (VERY IMPORTANT)
Without this, treatment FAILS ⛔
- Butox / Cypermethrin spray – weekly
- Ivermectin – every 3 months
- Clean shed, remove stagnant water
🧠 QUICK FIELD DIFFERENTIATION
- Red urine → Babesiosis
- Enlarged lymph nodes → Theileriosis
- Chronic wasting, anemia → Trypanosomiasis
- Skin nodules / edema → Microfilaria
