ORF (Contagious Ecthyma) in Goats
Cause: Viral disease (Parapox virus)
Note: Antibiotics do not kill the virus — they are used only to prevent secondary bacterial infection.
๐ Injectable Treatment (Choose ONE from each group)
๐น Antibiotic (secondary infection prevention)
Choose any ONE

Inj. Marbofloxacin
➜ 1 ml / 50 kg body weight (IM / SC) × 3–5 days
OR -
Inj. Dicrysticin-S (Penicillin + Streptomycin)
➜ 1 ml / 25 kg body weight (IM) × 3–5 days
๐น Pain & Fever Control
Choose any ONE

Inj. Melonex Plus (Meloxicam)
➜ 1 ml / 25–30 kg (IM) × 2–3 days
OR -
Inj. Meglugesic (Flunixin meglumine)
➜ 1 ml / 45 kg (IM) × 2–3 days
๐น Antihistamine (to reduce swelling & irritation)

Inj. Zeet (Chlorpheniramine maleate)
➜ 1 ml / 20–25 kg (IM) × 2–3 days
๐งด Local Lesion Treatment (VERY IMPORTANT)
Clean lesions first with saline or diluted potassium permanganate.
Choose ONE ointment:

Loraxane Ointment
(Antiseptic + healing)
OR -
Boric acid + Glycerin Ointment
๐ Apply once daily until scabs dry and fall off naturally
๐ซ Do NOT peel scabs forcefully
๐ Deworming (ONLY if worms suspected)

Inj. Ivermectin 1%
➜ 1 ml / 50 kg (SC) – single dose
OR -
Inj. Doramectin
➜ 1 ml / 50 kg (SC) – single dose
๐ Supportive Therapy

Multistar Liquid (Multivitamin)
➜ 5–10 ml orally once daily × 7–10 days
⚠️ VERY IMPORTANT – HUMAN SAFETY
⚠️ ORF is zoonotic (spreads to humans)
✔ Always wear gloves while applying ointment
✔ Wash hands with soap after handling goats
✔ Avoid touching face or cuts
✔ Humans can get painful ORF lesions on fingers/hands
⏳ Recovery Time

Mild cases: 10–14 days

Severe mouth lesions: 2–3 weeks

Appetite improves once pain reduces
